Prawn buffet

June 25th, 2009 by Doris

Last night, Faith took us to this restaurant where they have prawn buffet every Tuesday. 3 of us managed to have 4 plates of prawn! Very satisfying!

NB: the size of the plate seems to look smaller here. It was actually bigger in an oval shape.

updating blog

June 24th, 2009 by Doris

Finally our blog has a new layout! There are still many things to update and it is going to take a while to go through and edit all the pages. At the moment, I am busy updating the page of “our trip”. One thing that we love to do is travelling and I couldn’t wait to share with you the places we have been to so far. It is such a huge job to go through all the photos, reduce the image size and upload it to the blog… but i am getting there… please be patient :)

10,000 CHF kits didn’t work!

June 10th, 2009 by Doris

I found that some of my experiments didn’t work consistently and with low concentration. And hence I emailed the supplier to see if they could give me some suggestion. After a few emails back and forward, I received an striking email on Monday. It said “Good & bad news regarding the kits. Your observation confirmed a reported problem with lot 124154, and Arcturus will replace the kits (good news).

But I well can understand your frustration about the lost samples, time & efforts (bad news). The other complaint just came in a few days before, and there was no time to inform other customers upfront. Sorry for all the inconvenience, also in the name of Arcturus”

Well, this is indeed a bad news for me as I have very limiting samples to work on since they are precious human samples. Working on human tissue is always a high risk project but it is also the most relevant to the disease. I am proud that I am able to work on human tissue as I really wish whatever I do could give the patient some hope.

However, passion and heart are not enough in science. Results are also the key to get funding and recognition in order for the work to be continued. I am worry but I think it is more practical to focus on how to solve the problem than being miserable.  Our God is the Lord of all things!

On the weekend of 22-25 May, Jin Thau and Mary from London came to visit us. We were friends since primary school back in Malaysia and it was such a great feeling to catch up again after so many years! We went to Geneva, Montreux, Chateau de Chillon and Lausanne in 2-3 days! The weather was wonderful, bit too hot actually and I finally saw the Jet D’eau in Geneva.
