Coca Cola Blak

December 11th, 2008 by Leo

We found this in the supermarket:

la fusion de coca-cola et d’extraits de cafe
the fusion of Coca-Cola and extracts of coffee

How does it taste?  The coffee taste is only a hint – it is still dominated with coke taste.

I still prefer the original coke.

Ouchy

After Sunday service, we went home and had lunch. Then, we thought we shouldn’t be just sitting in front of the computer especially with such nice weather today. So, we decided to walk down to Ouchy, by the lake. We enjoyed the walk and the scenery. It was such a relaxing afternoon. It is just such a beautiful place, the mountains are just in front of you when you look out to the lake!

We also went to a cafe for a hot chocolate and coffee. Here, you need to know French to order things. Good that we could say :” table pour duex… chocolate chaud, cappuccino s’il vous plaît…merci.. :P

God’s grace

December 8th, 2008 by Doris

With Christ, there is peace! Throughout this journey, God has always been there for us. He has not promised that we would not encounter any problem but He promised that He will take us through it!

Before our departure from New Zealand, Laure & Ruth have found a studio for us. Many people have not found a place even after a year! On the first day of our arrival, Ruth was so kind to come and pick us up from the train station and showed us around especially the way to the supermarket.

Everyone in the lab are so nice to me. They only showed me the way in the labs but also provided me information regarding other matters staying in Lausanne. There is a lot of rules and laws to go by to live in Switzerland

Although had to go to the registry office 3 times but we disovered a cheaper supermarkets to get food. Also, we bumped into a very nice lady who helped us to open bank accounts even before we get our declaration of residency.

There has been some problems when we are trying to sort out the phoneline and internet (complicated which needed a electrician), but we met a very nice lady at the store who just wanted to help us since we don’t speak French. She called many times for us, get her husband (happen to be a former electrician) to find the line, and visited our place to check things out and finally we got it!

Our landlord is very nice and flexible. Not only he can speak fluent English, but he doesn’t mind us calling him for anything we need related/unrelated to apartment. He even provides tips/connection to help Leo in finding a job (we are so blessed, one of my colleagues is having difficulty in finding a flat).

I was so worried as the brain tissue shipped from Auckland has been delayed. They are very precious and have to be kept frozen at all times. First, Alex called the courier company for me since I can’t speak French. On the day it arrived, the technician was away so I had to go down to the basement to pick it up. I didn’t expect the parcels were so big and I didn’t take a trolley down with me. But the guy in the store was so nice, he offered to take them up to the lab for me with his bread in his mouth!

Of course, the people from church are very nice. They took us around, offer their help… to keep us comfortable.

God is so wonderful!

Cold Virus!

December 5th, 2008 by Doris

I guess it is a very common thing to get sick when you move to another country since there must be some local virus that foreigner is not used to. First, Leo unfortunately got the cold. After a week, he passed it to me and we have exactly the same symptoms! It was quite a nasty virus. For the first few days, you have terrible headache, sore eyes and running nose which just made you so tired. At night, your body become burning hot which results in sleepless night. Thank God that we brought some cold medicine with us. After a few days, things started to clear up a bit. The headache slowly go off and temperature become normal. Finally, you can get some sleep at night. As the running nose slowly disappearing, you start to notice some blood in your nose especially when you blow your nose and this is one of the consistent symptom. Then… just slowly recovering…
